It's Just Not Right

I really should be Far Away In Another Town today.

Specifically, San Francisco.

This weekend is the annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival.

And I should be there!

But, as a friend said...

"Oh calamity what hath high airfare wrought".

So, I'm Blue.

Because I'm stuck in New York, and this ain't no place for The Weary Kind.

But only For Today.

Because maybe someday soon, I'll be able To Go Home, or See the World.

Until then I'll just listen to Another Travelin' Song.

Because, like another friend said "there's always next year".

Don't Try This at Home

I made the Skinny Lentil Soup from Skinny Crock Pot over the weekend.

It was awful.

(Sorry Skinny Crock Pot people.)

I've heard the Healthy Chicken and Dumplings is good, though!

FNO 2011

It's that time of year again...

This is actually the first year I've "celebrated" fashion week.

But hopefully not the last!

I went to Lord & Taylor for "TEN FLOORS OF FABULOUS!" (although I only made it to four floors of fabulous).

There was free champagne,
a white chocolate Lord & Taylor shopping bag,
a band,
and Ivanka Trump.

My first stop was to buy the Brahmin Fashion Night Out Canvas Tote in Natural. It was "only" $50 and the proceeds go to the New York City AIDS Fund.

(I love shopping for a good cause.)

And, with my $50 purchase I was eligible to spin the "wheel of fashion"...

My prize was a super-soft kelly green cotton scarf by Michael Stars.

I can't wait until next year!

Finally!

Summer is - unofficially - OVER!

Some people love summer.

I'm NOT one of them.

What I do like about summer, however, are fresh peaches - not to eat (it's the texture), but to make Peach Cobbler.

So on Saturday, I walked up to the farmer's, and bought sweet corn (2 for $1 or 50 cents each!)...

tomatoes...

and, of course, peaches (they're there - in the upper right corner).

Then I came home and made this...

Peach Cobbler

Ingredients
8 fresh peaches - peeled, pitted and sliced into thin wedges
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons cornstarch

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
1/4 cup boiling water

MIX TOGETHER:
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F
In a large bowl, combine peaches, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch
Toss to coat evenly, and pour into a 2 quart baking dish
Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes

Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, baking powder, and salt
Blend in butter with your fingertips, or a pastry blender, until mixture resembles coarse meal
Stir in water until just combined

Remove peaches from oven, and drop spoonfuls of topping over them
Sprinkle entire cobbler with the sugar and cinnamon mixture
Bake until topping is golden, about 30 minutes

SO good!

But still...

I can't wait for fall
